School is back in session and that means big yellow buses, school zone speed limits and crossing guards. It also means you might be late to work or getting the kiddies off and could be a prime target for a traffic ticket if you violate any of the road rules that are in full effect this time of year. But don’t worry – we’ve got your back. Below is a list of some really basic rules that you should be aware of as we slide into another school year.
- School zone speed limits will be fully enforced for duration of time listed on signs or when lights on signs are flashing.
- You MUST come to a complete stop behind any school bus that stops to let kids on or off. This is enforced on all streets without medians (a strip of grass or concrete separating traffic direction). However, some states require a full-stop on ALL roads. Check here to find out what the law is in your state.
- NO CELL PHONE ZONES – most pick-up and drop-off car lines at schools strictly enforce no cell-phone rules so you can keep your eye on the kids and staff.
- Buckle-up at all times! Police and traffic guards will be watching to make sure you and the little ones are safely fastened.
